What to do to find GOD?

When will HE come!
“What should I do, sir, to find God?” asked a disciple. The Master said: “During every free minute, immerse yourself in the thought of His infinity. Speak to Him as to an intimate confidant. He is the nearest of the nearest, the dearest of the dearest. Love Him as a miser loves his money, as a fiery lover loves his beloved, as a drowning man loves the air. If you long for God so intensely, He will come to you.” (Words of Paramahansa Yogananda, Self-Realization Fellowship, p.1.)
JJK: Who thinks so intensely about GOD? Is that the cause of all the suffering on earth – the distance to GOD?
PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA: It is the lack of love for GOD that causes all symptoms of deficiency. The cause of suffering will be removed as soon as a certain part of mankind awakens a deep longing for GOD.
JJK: Do current developments point in this direction? Is the change of times described in the fact that people are finding their way back to GOD – and more and more people are actually finding their way back? It seems to me that at its core it is all about: developing a longing for GOD, crying when no one can interpret your tears, rejoicing when no one can understand your joy, feeling pain where no one can suspect pain. When the longing for GOD awakens, what else remains, what is more important, what else can be perceived – apart from HIM?
How is longing created?
PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA: It is given, given as soon as a soul has exhausted its experiences at a distance from GOD.
It is given and then it sets in of its own accord – a person whose heart has been opened, who has uncovered access to the soul and whose mind has become wide and clear is baptized with the vibration of longing. From a certain moment in the spiritual unfolding, a person consists only of longing. Then he is ready for mastery. This person hurries up the steps of knowledge with joy and towards GOD with complete devotion. This is the point of no return – enlightenment and ascension.
JJK: It seems that we are still a long way from the time when this longing is activated in people?
PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA: We are closer to this moment than you think, and closer than may be apparent from a first glance at these contemporary events.
JJK: How is the longing activated?
PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA: When the maturity is reached, GOD sends his highest angels to touch the human heart with divine love and flood it with divine light. It happens after a person has traveled through time for many lifetimes and reached the point of saturation in his earthly journey. Then his attention turns away from the earthly, the dependencies are dissolved and the view becomes free for the divine. Then it is time to let the highest angels rule and let the seed of love for GOD sprout in the human heart.
JJK: And more and more people are reaching this “saturation”?
PARAMAHANSA YOGANANA: Everything is changing and individuals are moving out of the darkness and into the light. Your longing for GOD is GOD’s longing for you. YOU and HE are ONE. You are unlimited divine consciousness and you are infinitely loved.
